Global1 and Opportunity International
At Global1, we are inspired to team up with Opportunity International as a way of giving back to the community.
The reason we are so inspired is not only do Opportunity International transform the lives of the poorest communities, they also embody so many of the principles that are important to Global1. Most importantly they give thousands of individuals in the poorest communities a hand up rather then a hand out, which is achieved by embracing the entrepreneurial spirit through a micro-finance system.
Through Opportunity’s educational approach, poverty stricken people are able to dramatically transform their own lives, which in turn transforms the lives of their families and the community around them, creating a ripple effect.
Opportunity International hold people accountable, hand people back their dignity and create permanent change from the ground up.

Who is Opportunity International?
Opportunity International Australia provides people living in poverty with the opportunity to transform their lives. Offering a hand up rather than a hand-out, we use a sustainable approach to solve poverty – empowering families through community development programs and loans as small as $100 to help them grow their own small business. These services mean that families no longer have to struggle to afford food, water, healthcare and an education for their children.
The people you can help
The World Bank estimates that approximately 2.5 billion people around the world live on less than US$2 a day. Each night, more than a billion people go to bed without eating a proper meal and millions of children are missing out on the education and medicine they need to lead a full life.

What can you do?
You can change lives by giving families a hand up out of poverty. By helping a mother buy a sewing machine to start a tailoring business or a father buy seeds to plant a vegetable garden, small loans give people in poverty the chance to earn an income and provide for their families. As each business grows, loans are repaid and lent out again. And with 97% of loans repaid, the cycle continues, year after year. Community development programs consolidate these changes, helping families in areas such as health, education, water and sanitation.
Making the most of your donation
Your donations will have maximum impact. The increased income from a small business means that parents can afford to send their children to school and even university – helping to break the cycle of poverty for good. And, as each successful small business grows, it can even go on to employ people from the local community, helping them out of poverty, too. As loans are repaid, this cycle continues.
